The eyebrows are an important and central feature on the face, lending themselves to emotional expression and individuality. While some people are blessed with thick brows or are content with constantly using makeup to shape their version of ideal brows, not everyone feels the same. For those interested in a semi-permanent, time efficient method for producing thicker eyebrows, microblading is the solution.

At AestheticA Swansea, we provide microblading treatments to help our patients achieve their aesthetic goals by creating the perfect eyebrows to suit their unique personalities and personal preferences.

How Does Microblading Work?

Microblading is a tattoo technique that deposits pigment into the superficial layers of the skin, creating lasting and natural-looking results. Shallow wells are scratched into the skin using a handheld pen tipped with a series of very fine needles that is drawn across the eyebrows. Ink pigment is deposited into the skin to darken and fill in the eyebrows, mimicking the shade and pattern of the surrounding hair.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Microblading?

Good candidates for microblading are patients who are interested in fuller, shapelier eyebrows without constantly having to use makeup or other temporary means to achieve their desired look. Microblading is a simple and straightforward procedure that is safe for just about anyone, making most patients ideal candidates for the treatment.

The Microblading Procedure

The microblading procedure lasts about one to two hours, depending on the patient’s desired results. A topical anesthetic may be applied to the eyebrows at the start of the appointment to numb the area and increase patient comfort. Before the treatment begins, one of our expert technicians will work with you to determine the best means to create your ideal results. Measurements and guidelines may be used to ensure symmetrical, accurate and balanced results.

Once the numbing agent has set in, your technician will then begin applying the pigment using the handheld needle pen. The tool is scraped across the eyebrows to allow the ink to penetrate the top layer of the skin and darken the eyebrows. Once the desired shape and thickness has been achieved, the appointment is over and you are free to return to your daily routine.

A second appointment is necessary to provide a touch-up to the eyebrows since a portion of the ink will not settle into the skin. The touch-up appointment is normally completed about one month following the initial treatment.

Recovery and Results

Microblading is a safe and gentle treatment that produces minimal side effects. You may experience some mild redness or bleeding immediately following your appointment. Your eyebrows will scab over after about five days and will continue to heal for two weeks. Your eyebrows will also appear darker in color than desired, but they will continue to fade to the optimal shade over the first several weeks as some of the pigment is washed out.

Results are apparent immediately following the appointment, although they may not be visible due to scabbing and other side effects. Final results are typically visible in about six weeks, as the touch-up appointment is necessary to fill in areas that may fade at first. Microblading is a semi-permanent treatment, with most patients experiencing results for one to three years. The procedure can be performed as necessary for sustained results. We recommend scheduling maintenance appointments every 12 months to keep your brows looking shapely and well-defined for years to come.
